A finely crafted Meissen porcelain sugar bowl featuring classic blue floral and botanical motifs on a white ground. This elegant piece includes a matching lid with a sculpted fruit-shaped finial and a porcelain spoon that fits neatly through a notch in the lid. The bowl showcases traditional cobalt blue underglaze decoration, with intricate leaf and flower patterns that reflect the artistry of 18th–19th century European porcelain design. The underside bears the iconic Meissen crossed swords mark in blue, along with impressed and painted production codes, confirming its origin from the renowned Meissen manufactory in Germany. Additional pieces in the set (visible in accompanying images) include a lidded bowl and matching dish, all decorated in the same style and bearing similar marks. This product is a Meissen Blue Onion sugar bowl. It is a piece of German porcelain featuring the classic Blue Onion (Zwiebelmuster) pattern, which consists of hand-painted cobalt blue floral motifs. The lid is often topped with a sculpted rosebud finial.
The "onions" in the pattern are not actually onions, but rather peaches and melons on the rim, and bamboo stalks and chrysanthemum blossoms in the center.
The Meissen porcelain trademark, the Crossed Swords, can be found on the base of authentic pieces.
The pattern was inspired by East Asian designs and has been in production since 1731.
Meissen is the oldest trademark in Europe.
Dimensions : 4 in W x 5 in H
