Description :

Remember when people said they “read Playboy for the articles”? Well, after looking at these two issues, we think maybe there was some truth to that after all. Definitely “timely” in the sense that the folks/issues written about and the advertising are more than just porn/dirty cartoons! (although centerfolds ARE intact if you are worried).

Here’s a sampler of the October 1978 issue:

- In-depth interview with America’s favorite singer, Dolly Parton (she altered her costume to be modest on the cover out of respect for fans)

- Sports coverage from tennis to baseball

- Letters re: the previous month’s articles by Carl Sagan & about William Colby (CIA head)

- O.J. Simpson advertising Dingo Boots

- Movie reviews of Heaven Can Wait, Grease, and Animal House

- Short interview with Gary Busey

- Album reviews of Rolling Stones’ “Some Girls” and Andy Gibb’s “Shadow Dancing”

- Latest watch styles for men

- Article on Peterbilt trucks

PLAYBOY MAGAZINE OCTOBER 1978 DOLLY PARTON,CENTERFOLD INTACT | eBay

And here’s a sampler of the September 1979 issue:

- Fiction piece by Irwin Shaw

- In-depth interview with notorious baseball player, Pete Rose

- Article on oil/fossil fuels regarding OPEC

- Cooking with skewers

-  "PR" for Ayatollah Khomeini

-  Poem by Shel Silverstein (yes, from “Where the Sidewalk Ends” fame!)

PLAYBOY MAGAZINE SEPTEMBER 1979 GIRLS OF IVY LEAGUE VICKI McCARTY | eBay

Of course, there are all the regular Playboy features and photos you would expect, but these older Playboy magazines are a great snapshot of current events, not just explicit photos (although there are lots of those, too!).
