Description :

1. Jasper–Agate Swirl Stone

This was the polished piece with flowing bands of cream, brown, red, and white.

What it is

A jasper–agate mix, formed when silica-rich fluids filled cavities in volcanic rock and deposited layers over time.

Key traits

  • Swirling, painterly banding

  • Warm iron‑oxide colors

  • Natural pits from gas bubbles or incomplete filling

  • A blend of opaque jasper and more translucent agate

Why it’s special

It’s essentially volcanic art — chaotic chemistry frozen into stone.

2. Selenite Crystal

This was the translucent, silky mineral you held in your hand.

What it is

Selenite, a clear crystalline form of gypsum.

Key traits

  • Pearly, glowing translucence

  • Straight, parallel cleavage lines

  • Very soft and easily scratched

  • Forms in evaporating lakebeds and desert basins

Why it’s special

It has a serene, luminous quality that makes it feel almost otherworldly.

3. The Mica–Quartz Schist

This was the white-and-silver stone with shiny flakes.

What it is

A muscovite–quartz schist, a metamorphic rock rich in mica.

Key traits

  • Silvery, reflective mica sheets

  • White quartz matrix

  • Layered, foliated texture

  • Formed from shale under heat and pressure

Why it’s special

It’s a textbook example of how metamorphism reorganizes minerals into aligned, sparkling layers.
