Description :

Fluorite (the gray‑translucent cubes) 7 x 5

  • Crystal habit: Perfect cubes, often with slightly frosted or stepped faces

  • Color: Your piece shows a smoky gray tone, which can come from trace impurities or natural radiation exposure

  • Luster: Vitreous (glassy)

  • Common localities with this look:

    • Berbes, Asturias (Spain)

    • Elk Creek, South Dakota (USA)

    • Morocco

    • Illinois–Kentucky Fluorspar District (USA)

Barite (the golden‑yellow tabular crystals)

  • Crystal habit: Flat, bladed or tabular crystals

  • Color: Honey‑yellow to amber, often translucent

  • Luster: Pearly to vitreous

  • Why it forms with fluorite: Both minerals can precipitate from hydrothermal fluids in similar temperature/pressure conditions, so they often grow together in cavities and veins.

Additional surface textures

The orange and greenish granular coatings could be:

  • Iron oxides (rusty orange)

  • Chlorite or other silicates (greenish tones) These are common secondary minerals that form after the main crystals.
