Description :

Vintage Iida Banjo in Case.

Please note photos. Instrument is missing one string. Needs a little TLC. The head does not have a hole. The (color? Coating?) is rubbed off. Playing it sounds neat. The tone seemed decent. Needs to be tuned and all that.

Brand Information

  • Origin: Iida Gakki began manufacturing guitars in 1958 in Nagoya, Japan.

  • Banjo Production: The company expanded into the banjo market in the mid-1970s. During the 1970s and 80s, their Japanese-made "Masterclone" banjos gained a strong reputation for being high-quality instruments for their price range.

  • Evolution: In 1993, production moved from Japan to Korea, and later to China. While later models are often considered more "generic" starter instruments, vintage Japanese-made Iidas remain desirable to collectors and players.

Visual Identifiers

  • Headstock Logo: The photo clearly shows the "Iida" script logo with "EST. 1958" printed directly beneath it.

  • The Star Logo: The large star inlay in the center of the headstock is a signature feature of many Iida banjos. Interestingly, "Vega" (a brand Iida produced instruments for during certain eras) also means "star" and used a star as its logo, which often leads to these instruments being cross-referenced by collectors.
