Description :
A vibrant coastal scene by Northwest artist Danny Mayes, this painting captures a working tugboat navigating the dynamic waters off Washington’s rugged shoreline. The vessel, with its bold red cabin, floats amid swirling blues and whites, framed by rocky islets and towering evergreens. Snow-capped mountains rise in the distance beneath a dramatic sky, evoking both the power and solitude of maritime life. Mayes’ expressive brushwork and vivid palette celebrate the rhythm of work and nature, blending realism with impressionistic energy. Danny Mayes is a Seattle-based painter known for his emotionally resonant depictions of Pacific Northwest life—street scenes, landscapes, and portraits of civil rights leaders and sports icons. A former boxer turned artist, he studied at the Burnley School of Commercial Art under Northwest master William Cumming. His preferred mediums are acrylic and watercolor, often applied with intuitive spontaneity and warmth. Mayes’ work has been collected by the Seattle Seahawks, Seattle Mariners, and numerous corporate collections, reflecting his deep connection to the region’s cultural and civic identity. His paintings have been exhibited at Kirsten Gallery and featured in local restaurants, galleries, and private homes throughout the Puget Sound.
