Description :
A contemplative and poetic image by Seattle artist Richard Kirsten-Daiensai, this framed print features two stylized figures embracing atop a tombstone, set beneath a glowing moon in a serene nighttime garden. A blooming red flower bush and scattered blue blossoms soften the scene, while the inscription below reads: “We are two people amongst the billions yet we found each other and share a love that is eternal which is our universe.” The composition evokes themes of love, mortality, and cosmic unity, rendered in Kirsten-Daiensai’s signature symbolic style. Signed in pencil by the artist. Richard Kirsten-Daiensai (1920–2013) was a Seattle-based painter, printmaker, sculptor, and Zen Buddhist priest. His work blends East Asian aesthetics with spiritual reflection, often exploring themes of love, gratitude, and the transience of life. He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and the University of Washington, and spent decades traveling between Seattle and Japan, where he drew inspiration from Buddhist temples and shrines. His art is held in collections across the U.S. and Asia, including the Seattle Art Museum and the Library of Congress.
