Description :
A peaceful forest path bathed in afternoon light, this watercolor by Washington artist Ann Rutter captures the quiet beauty of Lopez Island. Two distant figures walk beneath towering trees, their shadows stretching across the sun-dappled trail. Rutter’s brushwork balances realism with softness, using layered washes and warm earth tones to evoke the stillness and intimacy of a shared walk in nature. Ann Rutter (1933–2014) was a self-taught watercolorist based in Edmonds, Washington. Over a forty-year career, she became known for her Northwest landscapes—coastal scenes, island trails, and Skagit Valley farms—painted with sensitivity and grace. Her work was honored by the Seattle Boat Show and the Edmonds Art Festival, and is held in numerous corporate and private collections. Rutter began painting after taking a class at Edmonds Community College and developed a distinctive style rooted in place and memory
