Description :

Lovely pairing of a cedar treasure/jewelry box with intricate carving and a print with a complicated production provenance!

Wooden carved jewel/treasure box has hinged floral carved lid, geometric floriated sides, handles, and small feet. Interior has mirror with silver floral detail. Vintage outdoor scene in oval on lid. It measures 4.5" H x 11.5" L x 6.5" D. In good vintage shape.

If you recognize this print, you know it's a Rembrandt image. Here's the scoop: this print is a faithful copy of Rembrandt's original print of "Abraham Casting Out Hagar & Ishmael" done in the 19thC by a master engraver named Amand-Durand. Amand-Durand created this image on a metal plate for a book series published in the mid-1800s. Those 19thC plates made by Amand-Durand were used by a contemporary company (Art World Industries) to pull prints in 2000. Thus, you have a contemporarily pulled print from a plate created in the 19thC that was a copy of an earlier image by Rembrandt. That explanation aside, it is a wonderful image on quality paper adhered to a tagboard backing -  ready to be matted and framed. Measures 11" H x 10" W with the printed area measuring approx. 5" H x 4" W. Watermark on lower right by Art World Industries.
