Description :
This original artwork by Danny Mayes captures a whimsical, minimalist scene of three small figures flying two brightly colored balloons against a soft, open background. Mayes uses restrained linework and gentle washes to create a sense of lightness and motion, letting the negative space do much of the emotional work. The orange and blue balloons drift upward, giving the composition a playful, uplifting feel, while the figures—rendered in his characteristic simplified style—anchor the scene with warmth and charm. Double‑matted in pink and blue and framed in black, the piece has a clean, modern presentation that highlights the delicacy of the drawing. A lovely example of Mayes’ ability to shift from bold Northwest expressionism to intimate, narrative‑driven illustration.
Short Artist Bio — Danny Mayes (American, b. 1950s)
Danny Mayes is a Pacific Northwest painter known for his bold brushwork, expressive line, and vibrant depictions of regional life. His work has been collected by the Seattle Seahawks, Seattle Mariners, and numerous corporate and private collectors, and he exhibited widely from the 1990s through the 2010s, including at Kirsten Gallery in Seattle’s University District.
