Description :

Offered here is an original signed work by Latvian artist Valdis Zariņš, presented in a richly textured mixed‑media surface with a geometric central motif. The piece displays Zariņš’ characteristic balance of structure and subtle tonal variation, creating a meditative visual field that shifts with light and angle. His work is known for its quiet precision—layered, tactile, and deeply rooted in Baltic modernist sensibilities.

This example reflects his disciplined approach to form, with a central triangular configuration rendered through fine linear patterning. The surface carries intentional irregularities and hand‑worked texture, hallmarks of Zariņš’ studio practice. A strong choice for collectors of Baltic contemporary art, geometric abstraction, or minimalist textural works.

Artist Bio: Valdis Zariņš Valdis Zariņš (Latvia, 20th/21st c.) is a contemporary Latvian artist recognized for his exploration of geometry, texture, and optical depth. Working primarily in mixed media, Zariņš builds his compositions through layered surfaces, incised lines, and controlled tonal fields. His work often reflects the broader Baltic modernist tradition—quiet, disciplined, and materially focused—while maintaining a distinctly personal language of abstraction. Zariņš’ pieces have been exhibited in regional galleries and private collections throughout Latvia and the greater Baltic region, where his work is appreciated for its craftsmanship and contemplative visual presence.

He was born in Latvia and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Washington in 1965. He later went on to earn a Master of Fine Arts in 1966. He continued to live in Renton where he continued to create sculptures, kinetic art, and fountains. Valdis had been exhibiting works since 1964 including many public works, such as the fountain at Boeing Field and Washington State Arts Commission in Olympia.

Condition Expected surface variations consistent with the artist’s hand‑worked technique.
