If you like old antique ephemera, you are going to LOVE these publications. They were originally published in the early 00s (1900s, not 2000s!).

This is a large group of "Masters in Art - A Series of Illustrated Monographs" (Bates & Guild Company, Publishers) focused on great artistic masters of the past. These were formerly in the San Diego High School Library Collection and were deaccessioned in the mid-1970s. Our client got them as inspiration for her art and while they are pretty good reading with only black & white photos/diagrams, what we love them is the typeface and some of the ads. Each publication (10" H x 7" W) was put into a cardboard cover (11" H x 8" W) to protect it - some of the cardboard is not in perfect shape, but the interiors are generally pretty good given their age.

The collection is not complete, but we find selection of the particular artists that we do have to be interesting - in hindsight, we don't think that everyone here is a master, but judge for yourself.

Artists include: Raphael, Teniers, Perugino, Van Dyck, Murillo, Moretto, Tiepolo, Rossetti, Velasquez, Titian, Filippino Lippi, Rubens, Stuart, Fortuny, Van Eyck, Reynolds, Watteau, Ter Borch, De Hooch, Leonardo, Palma Vecchio, Veronese, Nattier, Sarto, Turner, Dou, De Chavannes, Stevens, Romney, and Pinturicchio.

Also included in this lot are some prints of famous architectural monuments published in the late 1920s by Davis Press. They don't look like much in their current state with somewhat ragged margins, but if you matted and framed them they would make a fabulous gallery wall - see the photo we took combining the images - they really work well together and the brown/teal color scheme is unexpectedly rich. The paper they are printed on measures approx. 14" H x 10" W, but we would mat them to approx. 11" H x 7" W so the image is the focus along with the title.

Placing a bid is an agreement to purchase. If you win, you must pick up your item(s). If you default on your purchase, your bidding privileges will be revoked permanently. Do not bid if you do not plan to purchase.If you bid, you MUST be available/arrange for pick-up of purchases on the pick-up date unless you have made prior shipping arrangements. Bring necessary tools and help for picking up large items. Loading assistance is NOT available. Some items may be located on a 2nd floor, out building.

Invoices are emailed to winning bidders once the sale has completely closed.Full payment must be made by 8:00 p.m. the day after auction closes. If total payment is not received before the pick-up date & time, items will be forfeited, and bidding privileges revoked.

Pick-up information will be on the invoice e-mailed after the auction closes.All items not picked up during the designated times will be considered abandoned and may be donated or resold. When possible, and at our sole discretion, an alternate pick-up time may be arranged. If this is possible, an appropriate fee will be charged.

A 12% Buyer's Premium and Sales Tax are added to the winning bid amount when invoiced. Sales tax is waived for licensed re-sellers.

We make every effort to describe lot items as accurately as possible. Expect normal signs of wear associated with antiques, vintage, and used items. We do not list every flaw.
