Description :

A five-piece cranberry-colored art glass collection featuring sculptural ribbing, a frosted botanical design and a small pitcher with a clear applied handle. The rounded sack vase retains its Pilgrim Cranberry Glass label, adding a documented example of collectible American glassmaking to the grouping.

Details

  • Optic-ribbed sack vase with a pinched, ruffled opening and original Pilgrim Cranberry Glass label stating “Handmade with Gold” and USA.
  • Tall vertically ribbed vase with a flared mouth and narrowed foot, consistent with comparable Pilgrim examples.
  • Frosted cranberry-colored vase with raised botanical decoration, attributed to Pilgrim based on glass etching
  • Small Pilgrim Cranberry Glass pitcher with a scalloped rim, rounded body and clear ribbed applied handle.
  • Rectangular napkin holder / vase with a raised heart motif.
  • Five pieces total. Maker identification is confirmed by the surviving label on the sack vase; the other pieces are unconfirmed attributions.

Measurements

  • Frosted botanical vase: approximately 9.75" H; 3.5" base; 3" opening.
  • Small pitcher: approximately 4.75" H × 4" W; 1.75" base.
  • Napkin holder: approximately 5" L × 2" W × 5.25" H.
  • Tall ribbed vase: approximately 15.25" H; 5" base; 3.6" opening.
  • Labeled sack vase: approximately 8.25" H × 5.5" W; 3.5" base; 1.25" opening.

Condition

Previously owned with scattered scratches, surface marks and residue. Close-ups show pronounced rough, whitish areas along part of the frosted vase’s bottom edge and smaller pale deposits or wear around the tall vase’s base. The Pilgrim label shows wear. Please examine the underside and rim photographs closely for individual condition details.

Highlights

  • Collectible American art glass: Pilgrim cranberry glass has an established collector following, with optic-ribbed vases and labeled examples regularly appearing in specialist and resale listings.
  • West Virginia heritage: Alfred Knobler established Pilgrim Glass in 1949, and its Ceredo plant opened in 1956. The company became part of West Virginia’s celebrated handmade-glass industry.
  • Cranberry history: Plant manager Karel Konrad introduced Pilgrim’s cranberry glass in 1968. The company subsequently became the world’s largest producer of cranberry glass before closing in 2002.
  • Original identification: The surviving label on the sack vase documents its Pilgrim origin and gold-associated cranberry glass production.
  • Varied display: Tall and rounded silhouettes, glossy ribs and frosted relief offer contrasting textures within a coordinated cranberry palette.
