Description :
9 black & white photographs issued by NASA in
1961 detailing the early sub-orbital flight taken by chimpanzee Ham
in the space program (Mercury-Redstone). Ham was one of a group of 6 chimps
chosen & trained for the experimental flights – most of the photos feature
him since he was the chimp chosen in the end for the 16-minute flight. Each
photo has a description on the verso of what is happening. Photos are in
excellent shape although the descriptions appear to have been done
with a mimeograph machine and have faded considerably over time.

Ham lived another 20 years after the flight in the
National Zoo and died in 1983.
