Description :
All items in this lot are tied to the Apollo 14 Mission. Lot includes:
Launch party sign in on Jan. 31st, 1971. Not sure where the location was, but we are guessing it was at KSC given our client’s connections there. Note – this is a repro, not the original sign in sheet. You NASA sleuths can probably check out the names and see if our guess is correct.
Apollo 14 News Release from Teledyne/Ryan Aeronautical of San Diego. Folder contains news release about Teledyne’s radar system used to guide the spacecraft to the lunar surface, black & white photo of a Teledyne artists rendering of the landing, and lovely brochure with detailed description of the radar system (general reader level). All in pristine condition.
Color repro of mission insignia from RCA. Pristine condition.
APOLLO 14 MISSION REPORT from NASA 1971. In pristine condition.
Miniature reproduction of the first newspaper delivered to the Moon by Alan Shepard on Apollo 14. In pristine condition.
Apollo 14 Official Mission Portrait. We are really unsure about the signatures on this photo – under magnification we don’t see pixels so it appears the signatures are not printed? You can see loops and cross-over ink, but that doesn’t rule out an autopen – one of our expert bidders pointed out that they started to be used in the 1970s. That said, the ink is not uniformly black across each signature as usually noted in autopen signatures. Please see the close-up photos and determine for yourself. If this is real, you may have found a gem!
Note – we have had no issues with any of this client’s signed memorabilia in previous auctions; we believe these signatures are authentic given the client’s connections/collecting habits. However, please be advised that we have not had them officially authenticated by experts.
