Description :
Pair of Signed NASA photos measuring 8” x 10” with official information on the verso.
Apollo 17 crew portrait including Harrison Schmitt, Ron Evans & Gene Cernan. Signed in black by Cernan & Schmitt. We believe the signatures on this photo are authentic since only two (Schmitt & Cernan) of the three astronauts have signed the photo; if it were a mass-produced photo from NASA, we think all three signatures would have been printed on the photo for completeness. We also know our client had other items signed by Cernan separately (we don’t recall anything signed by Schmitt, however).
Bruce McCandless was the first man to walk untethered in space during his first Space Shuttle mission. He used the newly developed jetpack on the mission in 1984 (STS 41-B). This color photo is an official portrait from NASA, but has had damage to the top portion and his head. This damage can be felt when running your hand over the section. Given that McCandless' signature is OVER the damage, we think it was signed with the damage already in place. Not sure what the story is on this – please look at the close-up.Note – we have had no issues with any of this client’s signed memorabilia in previous auctions; we believe these signatures are authentic given the client’s connections/collecting habits. However, please be advised that we have not had them officially authenticated by experts.
