Description :
Sculpture of the Bremen Town Musicians, a subject from a
German fairy tale collected by the Brothers Grimm. The sculpture, likely made
of brass or bronze, portrays the four animals—donkey, dog, cat, and
rooster—stacked on top of each other. The tale is about four aging domestic animals who, facing
mistreatment, decide to become musicians in Bremen. The animals never reach Bremen but instead trick a band of
robbers and take over their home. This sculpture is a popular depiction of the story, with a
famous bronze statue in Bremen erected in 1953.
The statue symbolizes the theme of finding new purpose and
camaraderie in old age. 4 1/2' tall and Vintage, hand-carved wooden cup, possibly of Ukrainian or
Polish origin. It is decorated with folk art designs. Likely crafted in the mid-20th century, possibly during the
Soviet era. Made from a light-colored wood. Features carved geometric and floral patterns. Could have been used as a drinking vessel or a decorative
item. Part of a set of wooden utensils. May be hand-painted. It is considered a vintage item. almost 4' tall and Stone Ikebana vase, used for the Japanese art of flower
arranging. It is handcrafted from natural stone, often slate, and features a
wide opening with a metal pin frog (kenzan) inside to hold flowers in
place. Natural stone, commonly slate. Rustic, minimalist, blending
traditional Japanese and contemporary styles. Holds water and secures flowers
for Ikebana arrangements. Pin Frog: A metal (often stainless steel) disc with pins to
hold stems. Often hand-carved, making each vase unique. Stones vary in shape,
size, color, and texture. Creates a harmonious relationship between nature and the
arrangement. Origin: Often made in the USA. 8 1/2' tall and
Miniature 4 ½” sculpture of the "Statue of the Bear and
the Strawberry Tree" (Spanish: El Oso y el Madroño), a well-known symbol
of Madrid, Spain. This statue depicts a bear reaching up into a strawberry tree
(Madroño tree) and is made of bronze, mounted on a black marble base. The bear and the strawberry tree together form the coat of
arms of Madrid. This emblem represents a historical agreement between the city
council and the church in 1222, where the city was granted ownership of the
woodlands (represented by the strawberry tree) and the church the animals and
plains (represented by the bear). The full-size statue is located in the Puerta del Sol, one
of Madrid's most famous squares. Sculptor Antonio Navarro Santafé created the statue, which
was installed in 1967. The strawberry tree (Arbutus unedo) is native to the
Mediterranean region and produces small red fruits. In the context of the
statue, it symbolizes the natural resources of the Madrid area. Bears have been associated with Madrid since the Middle
Ages, originally with the Ursa Minor constellation in the city's coat of arms,
later replaced by the strawberry tree. The bear is a symbol of strength and
connection to the local fauna. The statue is typically made of bronze, and the base is
often made of marble or stone, as observed in the provided image. The miniature
versions, like the one in the image, replicate the design of the full-sized
statue, capturing the bear's posture as it reaches for the fruit.
