Description :

Copper etching of the Hell Gate Bridge in New York City, originally named the New York Connecting Railroad Bridge. Spans the Hell Gate strait of the East River, connecting Astoria, Queens, and Randalls and Wards Islands in Manhattan. A 1,017-foot steel through arch bridge with approach viaducts, totaling 17,000 feet in length. Built between 1912 and 1917; designed by Gustav Lindenthal and Henry Hornbostel. Carries two tracks of Amtrak's Northeast Corridor and one freight track. At the time of its opening, it was the longest steel arch bridge in the world. Remains a crucial rail link for passenger and freight traffic along the Northeast Corridor.

Image of the Widnes–Runcorn Transporter Bridge, labeled as "The Old Transporter Bridge - Widnes." It was the first of its kind in Britain and the largest in the world when completed in 1905, connecting Runcorn and Widnes. The bridge spanned the River Mersey and Manchester Ship Canal. Its towers were 190 feet (58 m) high. The transporter car was 55 feet (17 m) long and 24 feet (7 m) wide. It operated until 1961, when it was replaced by the Silver Jubilee Bridge.  The transporter bridge was later demolished.
