Description :
A charming and diverse collection of miniature etchings displayed across five matching frames, each showcasing finely rendered line work and an expressive, understated style. The subjects include both European and American scenes, as well as portrait and landscape studies by Artist Lisel Salzer. Included Subjects: Seattle skyline with the iconic Space Needle. Beethoven House – Eroica Grave, handwritten on one print. A European village street with central church spire. A young child playing a recorder, rendered in soft detail. Two evocative windswept tree landscapes (no visible signature - may be an artist other than Salzer). . Key Details: Each etching is signed in pencil or ink - Lisel Salzer (note artist information below) - Austrian-born Seattle resident. Likely produced in the mid-20th century, based on style and materials. Etchings are framed under glass in sleek silver-tone metal frames with wide black matting. Lisel Salzer (1906–2005) was an Austrian-born painter and enamelist of Jewish heritage who fled Nazi persecution in 1939 and resettled in the United States. She was a highly skilled artist, trained at the Vienna Art Academy, and exhibited alongside renowned figures such as Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele at the prestigious Würthle Gallery in Vienna. After moving to New York, Salzer continued her artistic career, painting portraits and landscapes. In 1945, she became fascinated with Limoges enamel techniques and taught herself the intricate process, eventually mastering the grisaille method. Her enamel works gained recognition, and she exhibited widely, including at the Syracuse Ceramic National and the Museum of Contemporary Crafts. In 1950, Salzer relocated to Seattle, where she became a prominent portrait artist and enamelist. Her work was showcased at the Otto Seligman Gallery and the Frye Art Museum, and she painted notable figures such as James Washington Jr. and George Tsutakawa. At the age of 96, she was honored with a solo museum exhibition in Austria and awarded the Cross of Merit in Gold by the Austrian province of Salzburg.
