Description :
Original watercolor painting of iconic musician James Douglas “Jim” Morrison, created by artist Mary Henrickson. Rendered in cool-toned washes of teal, indigo, and sage, the portrait captures Morrison’s likeness with a fluid, stylized approach. Matted and framed in a textured blue wooden frame that reflects the palette of the artwork. Original work by Mary Henrickson Watercolor on paper Back label lists artist's original price at $300 Note on subject of this watercolor: James Douglas Morrison—better known as Jim Morrison—was the magnetic frontman of The Doors, and one of rock’s most enduring icons. Born December 8, 1943, in Melbourne, Florida, he co-founded the band in 1965 with keyboardist Ray Manzarek while studying film at UCLA. What set Morrison apart wasn’t just his deep, hypnotic voice—it was his poetic lyricism, rebellious charisma, and unpredictable stage presence that earned him nicknames like The Lizard King and Mr. Mojo Risin’ (an anagram of his name). The Doors exploded onto the scene with hits like “Light My Fire,” “Break On Through,” and “Riders on the Storm,” blending psychedelic rock with blues and spoken-word poetry. Morrison’s lyrics often explored themes of freedom, death, and transcendence, drawing from his love of literature, philosophy, and Native American imagery.
