Description :
Vintage 1949 “Diaper Dan” Advertising Thermometer – Cast Composition Novelty The thermometer appears set in its original wooden-style base with graduated temperature markings. Survives with good detail and natural wear consistent with age. Historical Note: Dimensions:
A mid-century novelty advertising thermometer known as “Diaper Dan,” dating to around 1949. The figure features a wide-eyed child peeking from behind a thermometer, rendered in molded cast composition with hand-painted details. These types of figural thermometers were produced as both functional advertising premiums and whimsical novelty décor during the postwar era.
“Diaper Dan” thermometers are part of a category of collectible advertising novelties popular in the 1940s–50s. Produced by small manufacturers, these pieces often served as giveaways in shops and businesses. While reflecting the period’s commercial humor and folk-art sensibility, they also provide insight into advertising trends and cultural depictions of the era. Today, they are collected as both Americana and advertising memorabilia.
Approx. 4.5–6" tall × 2–3" wide
