Description :
Murano Glass Ivory and Brown Ribbed Shell Bowl – Italy Origin: Murano, Italy
Material: Hand-blown glass
Colors: Ivory and brown swirl over white ground
Form: Ribbed shell-shaped centerpiece bowl
Base: Polished pontil Murano glassmaking traditions date back to the 13th century, with Venetian workshops becoming world-renowned for technical innovation and artistry.
Ribbed shell and freeform bowls like this became especially popular in the mid-20th century (1950s–1970s), when Italian designers embraced organic, sculptural shapes.
The color combination of ivory and brown was favored in this period for its modern yet naturalistic aesthetic, often used in console bowls and decorative centerpieces.
Each hand-blown Murano piece is unique, as slight variations occur in ribbing, swirl, and coloring — enhancing its collectibility.
Pieces of this style are often compared with works attributed to well-known Murano workshops such as AVEM, Fratelli Toso, and Ferro, though exact studio attribution is rarely marked. This ribbed Murano centerpiece showcases the organic freeform design and rich ivory-brown coloration characteristic of mid-century Venetian glassmaking, making it both a decorative focal point and a collectible example of Italy’s glass artistry.Historical & Collecting Context:
