Description :

Pair of Chinese Cinnabar Lacquer Vases with Carved Wood Stands

This elegant pair of Chinese cinnabar lacquer vases is a stunning example of traditional craftsmanship and historical artistry. Each vase is meticulously carved with intricate floral and geometric motifs in the Chinoiserie style, showcasing the deep red hue characteristic of cinnabar lacquer. The vases are mounted on finely carved hardwood stands, enhancing their display value and authenticity.

Key Characteristics:

  • Material: Cinnabar lacquer over metal core

  • Color: Rich imperial red

  • Design Motifs:

    • Stylized peonies and lotus blossoms (symbols of prosperity and purity)

    • Interlocking fretwork and scroll patterns (representing longevity and harmony)

Style & Historical Notes: These cinnabar lacquer vases reflect the Chinoiserie style popular during the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic period (circa 1880–1930). The intricate floral carvings and deep red lacquer are hallmarks of traditional Chinese decorative arts, crafted through a labor-intensive process involving dozens of hand-applied layers. Mounted on carved wood stands, they embody both aesthetic elegance and historical significance.
