Description :

Asian Black Lacquer Glass Display Cabinet with Mother-of-Pearl Inlay

Tall black lacquered display cabinet featuring framed glass doors and side panels, enclosing multiple adjustable glass shelves. The exterior is richly decorated with mother-of-pearl inlay floral motifs and geometric fretwork borders. The cabinet opens with hinged glass-panel doors, accented by intricate inlaid floral bands.

Details:

  • Origin: Likely Korean or Chinese (20th century, traditional lacquer craft style)

  • Form: Tall rectangular glass display cabinet with double doors

  • Material: Wood base, black lacquer finish, inset glass panels, glass shelves, mother-of-pearl inlay

  • Decoration: Floral and geometric motifs executed in shimmering abalone/mother-of-pearl inlay

  • Interior: Fitted with multiple removable glass shelves

Collecting Note:

Lacquer furniture inlaid with mother-of-pearl has a long tradition in East Asian craftsmanship, particularly in Korea and southern China. This type of display cabinet, popular in the mid-to-late 20th century, combines practical function with decorative artistry. Collectors value the luminous abalone inlay work and glossy lacquer finish, which create a striking contrast when used to showcase porcelain, glass, or collectibles.
