Description :

A striking set of three fossilized fish specimens from the extinct genus Knightia sp., embedded in natural sedimentary slabs from the Green River Formation, USA. These compression fossils date back to the Eocene Epoch (56–33.9 million years ago) and showcase the remarkable preservation conditions of ancient freshwater lakebeds.

Each specimen displays distinct anatomical features—visible fin rays, vertebral columns, and scale impressions—making this trio ideal for educational display, paleontological study, or private collection.

Lot Includes:

  • Three individual slabs, each containing a fossilized Knightia sp.

  • Species: Knightia sp. (extinct freshwater fish)

  • Fossil Type: Compression

  • Geological Formation: Green River Formation

  • Epoch: Eocene, Paleogene Period

  • Average Specimen Size: 3–4 inches in length

  • Total Weight: Approx. 2.05 kg

Scientific Note: Knightia occupied a lower trophic level in ancient ecosystems and was commonly preyed upon by larger predatory fish such as Diplomystus, Mioplosus, and Phareodus—offering insight into Eocene food chains.
