Description :

A rare early 20th-century portable brass and iron field microscope marked “Baker, 244 High Holborn, London – The Diagnostic.” This compact scientific instrument was designed for physicians or naturalists working in the field. The microscope features a folding tripod stand, fine and coarse focus knobs, and a rotating mirror beneath the stage for illumination.

Included in its original leather carrying case with green felt interior (case shows wear and needs repair) are several high-quality optical components from noted makers:

  • Carl Zeiss Jena AA objective

  • E. Leitz Wetzlar No. 3 objective

  • Bausch & Lomb Optical Co. 19 mm lens

  • Additional small accessories and glass slides

Height: approx. 6 inches

Condition: Leather case is worn and requires repair

Collecting Note:
Baker’s “Diagnostic” microscopes were popular from the late 19th to early 20th century, prized for their portability and precision. The inclusion of lenses from Zeiss, Leitz, and Bausch & Lomb—three of the foremost optical manufacturers of the era—makes this an especially desirable collector’s ensemble for enthusiasts of antique scientific instruments.
