Description :

An elegant sumi‑e ink painting by Judy Kalin, titled “Blossom Study.” The work features a delicate branch with emerging blossoms, rendered in expressive brushwork that moves from soft washes to confident, dark strokes. Kalin balances negative space with gestural line, allowing the composition to feel both spontaneous and intentional—hallmarks of traditional East Asian brush painting.

A red artist seal anchors the lower left, with “Kalin” signed beneath. Presented in a minimalist black frame with an inner border that echoes the simplicity of the piece, the artwork has a serene, meditative presence ideal for collectors of contemporary sumi‑e or Northwest ink artists.

Short Artist Bio — Judy Kalin

Judy Kalin is a contemporary artist known for her work in sumi‑e and Asian‑influenced brush painting, blending traditional techniques with a modern, interpretive sensibility. Her compositions often focus on natural subjects—branches, blossoms, stones, and organic forms—captured with an economy of line and an emphasis on gesture. Kalin’s work reflects the core sumi‑e philosophy: expressing the spirit of the subject rather than its literal detail. Her pieces appear in private collections throughout the Pacific Northwest and appeal to collectors who appreciate meditative, nature‑driven ink work
