Description :
"Iris and Vase" woodblock print by Roger Fry of the Bloomsbury Group*. Hand-printed by Virginia Woolf & Leonard Woolf at their Hogarth Press in 1921. This is a real beauty - small but with bold lines, this piece embodies all we love about woodcut prints. The print is enhanced by hand-drawn borders in black and gold on the mat and a wood frame with gold interior edge. Though Fry was a well-known artist, he was also an exceedingly articulate and renowned art critic; he is credited with coining the term "post-Impressionist" used to describe French painting of his time. Measures 13.25" H x 12" W framed - print area is actually about 5" H x 4" W. * Bloomsbury was group of authors, artists, and intellectuals in early 20th C in England. Members included Vanessa Bell, Virginia & Leonard Woolf, John Maynard Keynes, E.M. Forster, Roger Fry and numerous others who often published with the group's Hogarth Press imprint.
