Description :

A vintage kerosene lantern made by the R.E. Dietz Company, one of the most influential American lantern manufacturers of the 19th and 20th centuries. Founded in 1840 in New York, Dietz became known worldwide for its durable tubular cold‑blast lanterns, designed to deliver brighter, steadier light with improved airflow and wind resistance.

This example features the classic Dietz construction: a metal body with integrated wire guards, a liftable globe, and a fuel reservoir with the Dietz name stamped into the cap. The clear glass globe is also marked DIETZ, a hallmark of the company’s standard production across multiple model lines.

Based on its form and materials, this lantern aligns with Dietz’s early‑ to mid‑20th‑centurycold‑blast designs—models widely used on farms, railroads, and industrial sites for their reliability and weather‑resistant performance. Dietz produced lanterns in New York until 1931, then in Syracuse, and later overseas; the globe embossing and construction style on this example are consistent with that long‑running production era.

A solid, utilitarian piece of American lighting history, suitable for collectors of early technology, industrial décor, or vintage outdoor equipment.
