Description :

A comprehensive and provenance‑rich Apple collection centered on the Macintosh Performa 640CD, accompanied by its period‑correct Apple Multiple Scan display, peripherals, boxed accessories, advertising ephemera, and institutional documentation. This lot includes both the original University of Washington Chemistry Department bill of sale dated February 26, 1996 and a UW Chemistry Department letter confirming the system’s Apple‑Refurbished condition at the time of acquisition. These documents provide unusually strong provenance for a mid‑1990s Macintosh system.

Highlights

  • Macintosh Performa 640CD desktop system with full rear I/O panel (power, audio, printer, modem, video)

  • Apple Multiple Scan 15 Display, Model M2978

  • Original Apple keyboard and mouse

  • QuickCam packaging and accessories

  • Original UW Chemistry Department bill of sale dated February 26, 1996

  • UW Chemistry Department letter confirming Apple‑Refurbished status

  • Apple Tech Info Library sheets, Handy Software Center materials, and additional documentation

  • 1990s Performa advertising inserts showing release‑era pricing, including models listed at $1,399 and $1,599, plus a Presidents Day circular listing the Performa 6400/200 at $1,499.99

  • Color StyleWriter LocalTalk Module with boxed components

  • Additional Apple accessory boxes, cables, and manuals

  • Paperwork and forms found with the system

Recent Market Values

Comparable Performa‑era systems show a broad range depending on completeness, condition, and included peripherals. Recent sales include:

  • Performa 475 full vintage set with monitor and LaserWriter: $509

  • Performa 550 systems: $672–$1,142 depending on configuration and condition

  • Performa 631CD with monitor, keyboard, mouse, and external drive: $847.81

  • Performa 6300CD and 6200CD systems: $195–$336 depending on completeness and functionality

These figures reflect individual system sales. This lot’s combination of a Performa 640CD system, boxed accessories, and period documentation positions it above typical single‑unit offerings.

Condition Notes

Age‑appropriate wear consistent with vintage Apple hardware and stored paper materials. Several components remain boxed or foam‑protected. Documentation shows typical handling and storage wear. It has not been tested for functionality.

Collector Appeal

A robust, historically significant Apple lot ideal for collectors, restorers, and historians of early Macintosh systems. The combination of original packaging, boxed peripherals, period advertising with documented pricing, and dual UW provenance documents makes this a standout offering with strong archival and display value.
