Description :
A 1928 Underwood No. 3 typewriter, offered with seven vintage replacement ribbon spools. The No. 3 was Underwood’s heavy‑duty, wide‑carriage office machine—built for professional environments that required reliability, speed, and long‑form document production. Underwood dominated the typewriter market in the early 20th century, and by the late 1920s their machines were considered the industry standard for business and government use. This model features the classic Underwood open‑frame design introduced in the early 1900s, which allowed typists and mechanics to easily access the typebars and internal mechanisms. Its 11‑inch carriage made it suitable for correspondence, forms, and general office work. The machine shows age‑appropriate wear consistent with long-term use and storage, offered in as‑found estate condition. The included vintage ribbon spools span multiple brands and eras, adding value for restorers, collectors, and display use. Historical Notes:
– Underwood introduced the No. 3 as a professional‑grade machine built on the same engineering foundation as the famed Underwood No. 5.
– By 1928, Underwood was producing more typewriters than any other manufacturer worldwide, and their machines were widely used in offices, schools, and government agencies.
– The No. 3’s open‑frame construction and durable steel mechanism made it a favorite among repair technicians and long‑term office users. Model Notes:
– Underwood No. 3, wide‑carriage office typewriter
– Classic open‑frame Underwood design
– Steel typebar mechanism with front‑strike action
– 11‑inch carriage suitable for standard office documents
– Offered in as‑found estate condition with seven vintage replacement ribbons Contents: The included replacement ribbons span various eras and brands, adding both functional and collectible value for restorers, display collectors, and vintage office enthusiasts.
