Description :

“Yoho Station – The Big Hill with Mt. Logan” is an original acrylic by Ross Buckland, depicting a dramatic moment along the historic Canadian Pacific Railway line. A steam locomotive pushes through the mountain pass toward a small rural station, where figures wait beside a red water tower and depot building. Towering evergreens frame the scene, while streaks of light break through the sky, adding tension and atmosphere. Buckland’s crisp detail, strong contrast, and sense of motion capture both the rugged beauty of Yoho National Park and the grit of early rail travel through the Rockies.

Artist Bio — Ross Buckland (Canadian, b. 1958)

Ross Buckland is a Canadian painter celebrated for his detailed, atmospheric depictions of aviation, wilderness, maritime, and historic transportation subjects. Born in Calgary in 1958, Buckland is largely self‑taught, having taken only high‑school art classes before developing his technique independently. His early fascination with aircraft and the Canadian landscape shaped the themes that define his work today.

Buckland’s influences include master aviation artists Frank Wootton, Keith Ferris, and R.G. Smith, whose precision and narrative style can be seen in his own compositions. Working primarily in oil and acrylic on board, he is known for crisp linework, luminous skies, and strong storytelling elements.

His paintings have been exhibited in galleries such as Trailside Galleries and Tabora Gallery, and he has received recognition from the American Society of Aviation Artists, including the prestigious Founders’ Gold Award. Buckland’s work is held in private and corporate collections and remains highly sought after by collectors of aviation, wilderness, and historical transportation art.
