Description :

A colorful farmyard painting dated 1962, with a rooster and chickens gathered outside a rustic barn. We were told a family member painted it especially for the late owner along with the custom built frame. Warm yellows, oranges and reds stand out against the blue sky, while the unusually wide wood frame gives the piece a distinctive mid-century feel.

Details

  • Artwork: Painted canvas with visible brushwork, depicting a rooster and chickens in front of a barn and wooden fence
  • Signature: Signed and dated “’62” at the lower right, with handwritten inscriptions on the reverse
  • Frame: Wide, flat reddish-brown wood surround with a narrow, darker inner edge and a projecting profile
  • Estate Background: From a multigenerational military family whose art collecting reached back to World War II. The late owner and her officer husband acquired pieces during postings in Korea, Germany and Japan, alongside custom works and personal commissions. A buyer by profession, she also loved hosting, cooking and making things by hand.

Measurements

  • Canvas: Approx. 29⅞" wide x 13.25" high
  • Frame: Approx. 36.47" wide x 16⅜" high x 1⅞" deep

Condition

Pre-owned, with scuffs, scratches and finish wear to the frame, including the corners. The reverse shows discoloration, small holes and fraying along the canvas edges. Please review the close-up photos.

Highlights

  • Made Especially for Her: We believe a family member personally painted this piece for the late owner, giving it a place in the family’s story beyond its decorative appeal.
