Description :

A generous mixing bowl with classic English kitchen character. Made by T. G. Green Ltd. of Church Gresley, this Gripstand bowl features a warm yellow exterior, cream-glazed interior and raised oval-and-diamond decoration beneath a rope-pattern band. Its substantial size makes it a standout addition to a vintage kitchenware collection. The last photo shows a catalogue of their yellow wares along with their measurements.

Details

  • The Backstamp: Features the iconic Church Gresley castle gatehouse logo flanked by trees. This fnt style and layout indicate this specific stamp was heavily used from the 30s through the 50s.
  • The "2's" Marking: The hand-stamped 2's at the bottm denotes the size. this represents the absolute largest, commercial-famhouse scale bowl T.G. Green has offered.
  • Glazed yellow ware earthenware with a contrasting cream interior.
  • Molded oval panels with diamond centers and decorative banding below the rim.
  • Distinctive Gripstand base designed to support the bowl at an angle while mixing.

Measurements

  • Approximately 15.5 to 16 inches across the rim × 6.75" H.

Highlights

  • A recognizable English kitchenware design collected for its molded decoration, practical form and maker’s marks.
  • Gripstand bowls are represented in the National Trust’s collections, reflecting their place in British domestic history.
  • Fun Fact: The "Two-Sagger" Firing—its massive 6.75-inch height is exactly why it earned the "2's" moniker. In the historic pottery kilns of Derbyshire, two of these stacked together completely monopolized an entire standard firing sagger box.

Condition

In good used condition with some glaze crazing, interior staining, utensil marks and scattered discoloration. The foot ring has chips, losses and darkened wear. Exterior surfaces and the upper rim show scuffs and abrasions.
