Description :

A pair of American pottery vases combining a tall Van Briggle vase in turquoise-blue with a rounded Haeger vase in speckled sage green. The Van Briggle features flowing floral relief around a bulbous body and elongated neck, while the Haeger has broad vertical ribs, a rolled rim, and a pedestal foot.

Details

  • Van Briggle vase with moulded floral decoration and a softly shaded blue glaze.
  • Incised Van Briggle name, double-A emblem, and Colorado Springs identification beneath; a small paper label is also present.
  • Haeger vase with a lobed body and speckled green glaze; blue Haeger USA stamp beneath.
  • Two vases included.

Measurements

  • Van Briggle: approximately 10⅜ inches high, 3.25 inches across the rim, and 4.25 inches across the base.
  • Haeger: approximately 6⅞ inches high, 6 inches wide, and 4.25 inches across the base.

Highlights

  • Two marked American pottery makers, with contrasting floral and ribbed designs.
  • The Van Briggle’s flowing botanical relief reflects the Art Nouveau influence associated with the pottery.
  • Historical note: Artus and Anne Van Briggle established their Colorado Springs pottery in 1901. This company history does not establish the production date of this vase.

Condition

Pre-owned condition with surface marks and wear to the bases. The Haeger has pronounced interior staining and visible crazing, along with roughness and glaze losses around the underside. The Van Briggle shows scattered dark marks and surface wear near the lower body and base. Please review the close-up photographs for details. Water retention has not been tested.
