Description :

A Tell City Young Republic two-piece hutch and buffet in a warm Andover finish. Scalloped trim, a spindle gallery, diamond-pattern wire doors and decorative metal hardware give this piece its traditional Early American character. Open display areas combine with drawers and enclosed cabinets for dining-room storage.

  • Manufacturer’s paper label identifies Pattern 8398 and Finish No. 48 Andover.
  • Upper hutch features open shelving, two wire-front cabinet doors and a central display cubby with a turned-spindle rail.
  • Buffet base has five drawers and three paneled cabinet doors.
  • Includes a green felt-lined drawer with a fitted divided utensil tray.
  • Decorative crown molding, shaped side supports and bracket-style feet.

  • Combined height: approximately 70.25".

Condition

Previously owned with visible scratches, scuffs, finish loss and discoloration, particularly on the buffet surface, drawer fronts, feet and interior storage areas. Metal hardware shows tarnish and wear. Rear panels show pronounced dark staining and finish deterioration. The felt-lined drawer has debris and wear. Please review the detailed photographs.

Highlights

  • Tell City’s roots reach back to 1865, when eleven craftsmen established the Chair Makers Union as a worker-owned cooperative in Tell City, Indiana. The business adopted the Tell City Chair Company name in 1924. The “Since 1865” label refers to the company’s founding, rather than the manufacture date of this hutch.
  • The Young Republic stamp identifies the furniture collection and its advertised solid hard rock maple construction. The separate paper label records the pattern number and No. 48 Andover finish - useful details for collectors or buyers coordinating with other Tell City furniture. Its scalloped woodwork, turned spindles and traditional hardware reflect the collection’s Colonial Revival styling.
