Description :

A five-piece decorative ceramic collection pairing a Mason’s Chartreuse ironstone jug with Chinoiserie JUWC 1897 Antique Chinese Export Reproduction Vase and Asian-style ceramics. Green floral decoration, blue-and-white blossoms, pale celadon glaze, and gilt accents bring together a varied group of forms and finishes.

Details

  • Mason’s Chartreuse ironstone jug with an angular body, shaped rim, green floral decoration, and gilt accents; marked “Made in England” beneath.
  • Green-and-white vase with dense botanical decoration, sculptural fruit-and-leaf handles, and crackled glaze. It was produced in Hong Kong by JUWC 1897.
  • Blue-and-white covered jar decorated with flowering branches and horizontal blue brushwork; blue pictorial mark beneath.
  • Small celadon-glazed vase with rounded body, subtle relief decoration, scalloped mouth, and a blue seal-style mark.
  • Bearded elder figurine carrying a staff and peaches, with a mottled blue and burgundy robe; incised marks beneath.
  • Five objects, plus the covered jar’s lid.

Measurements

  • Heights range approximately 2.75–8⅜ inches.
  • Widths range approximately 2.25–5.5 inches.

Highlights

  • The marked Mason’s Chartreuse jug offers a recognisable pattern for English ironstone collectors.
  • The remaining pieces provide contrasting examples of botanical decoration, celadon colouring, and figural ceramics.
  • Historical note: Mason’s introduced its patent ironstone body in 1813, establishing the durable ceramic ware for which the firm became known. This history does not establish the age of the jug offered here.

Condition

Pre-owned condition with surface wear, foot-ring discolouration, interior residue, and wear to gilt decoration. Crazing is visible on the Mason’s jug and throughout the green-and-white vase. Small surface irregularities and marks are also present. Please review the close-up photographs of rims, handles, bases, and the figurine’s projecting details. Water retention has not been tested.
