Highlights

  • A Bit of History: Chinese blue-and-white porcelain flourished during the Yuan dynasty in the 14th century, when cobalt-blue decoration beneath a clear glaze became a major ceramic tradition. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, these wares reached collectors around the world and helped inspire European blue-and-white ceramics, including Delftware.
  • The Tea Caddy Tradition: Ceramic tea caddies held dried tea leaves, with fitted lids helping protect their contents from moisture and household odors. This hexagonal example combines that storage form with landscape panels depicting mountains, water, boats and buildings—a miniature scenic composition on each side.
