A playful grouping of five chicken and rooster ornaments, combining colorful painted shelf sitters with two slender carved birds on natural wood bases. Red, mustard yellow, black and warm wood tones bring a rustic farmhouse feel to the collection.

Details

• One red rooster shelf sitter with a crackle-painted wooden body, metal wings and tail, and jointed dangling legs. An underside label reads “Made in China.”
• One black rooster shelf sitter with dotted and feather-pattern decoration, a red comb and wattle, and dangling legs with metal feet.
• One flat wooden rooster ornament with painted scrollwork and a small supporting base.
• Two slender carved wooden birds with curled wood tails, bark-textured bodies and individual log-slice bases.
• Makers and production dates are unidentified. Wooden display risers are not included.

Measurements

• Recorded heights range approximately from 3.5" to 9", with shelf sitters measured in a seated position.

Highlights

The dangling-leg figures are designed to perch along a shelf or cabinet edge, while the freestanding birds allow the collection to be arranged at different levels. A varied grouping for collectors of rooster décor and whimsical animal carvings.

Condition

Previously owned with paint wear, scuffs, small chips and surface marks. The red shelf sitter has an intentional crackle finish with additional wear and exposed wood around portions of the leg joints. Metal elements show discoloration and bending. The flat wooden rooster has a visible line in its reverse that may be a wood split. The carved birds have delicate curled tails and irregular natural wood surfaces.
