Description :

Storyteller pottery doll crafted by Felicia Fragua of Jemez Pueblo, New Mexico.  The doll has a wonderful use of color & detail. This piece is a mother holding her 3 children as she tells them a story. Felicia grew up in a large family of traditional potters. She learned how to make pottery by helping her mother, she made her first piece on her own around 13yrs. She considers her mother, Grace Fragua, and sister Rose to have been her teachers (Felicia Fragua Bio). The artform of making Storytellers began in the '60's to depict the tradition or oral story telling from generation to generation.  Jemez Storytellers can be identified by round open mouths, and the artists use of children, animals or both, with a color scheme of red strips on tan clay. A great piece to add to a collection, to display or to signify heritage and connection to Jemez Pueblo.

Doll measures at 6” tall x 3” wide x 4” deep.
