Description :

Book written by client's father about Argali sheep hunting in Mongolia during the Soviet Union era. (That's his Marco Polo sheep on the front dustjacket). Entertaining and insightful, the narrative moves from Alaska to Asia and back again. Great details about tracking on foot in high altitude mountains, traditions engaged in with locals, traveling with firearms, bribing Soviet officials, making soup in a sheep's stomach, and explanation of the costly permit process that allows Mongolia to finance its wildlife management. History & customs in Mongolia are included as well as history of hunting there. There are also  practical suggestions for anyone wishing to do a similar hunt - the political lines may have changed, but the skill & challenge of hunting the largest sheep in the world has not.

MONGOLIA HUNTER by Patrick J. Steward. Hardcover with dust jacket. This is #202 from a limited edition of 1500 books. It is signed & numbered by the author and in original shrink-wrap. 1986 Shikar Publishing (Santa Fe, NM) 247 pages.
