Description :
Client's father was a big game hunter from Alaska who hunted in the Americas and Asia. These books are from his reference collection. These were gathered in preparation for his Argali sheep hunt detailed in the book in Lot #23. Please see photos to judge condition for yourself. ACROSS ASIA’S SNOWS AND DESERTS by William J. Morden.
Hardcover, 1927, GP Putnam’s Sons (New York NY). 413 pages. Details traveling
through central Asia at the beginning of the 20th century visiting
such places as Kashmir, Mintaka Pass, Hunza, and other relatively obscure
places (one chapter details Soviet soldiers at Kizil Rabat Post). Interesting
cultural observations commensurate with the time period. AREA HANDBOOK FOR MONGOLIA by Trevor Dupuy & Wendell
Blanchard. Hardcover. 1970, First Edition, US Gov. Printing Office (Washington
DC). 502 pages. Government issued handbook covering history, political
background, and cultural information on Mongolia current as of publishing date
(still very much a communist area). Please note that while binding is generally nice & tight, there is a split - see last photo.
BEYOND THE CASPIAN – A NATURALIST IN CENTRAL ASIA by Douglas
Carruthers. Hardcover. 1949, Oliver & Boyd (Edinburgh UK). 290 pages with
fold-out map. Author details Samarkand, Pamir pastures, and Kush among other
locales. Note that a page has come loose in the introduction.
