Description :
Beautifully executed limited edition print of Frank "Pete" Everest's speed-record flight by Mike Machat. Everest became known as "The Fastest Man Alive" flying the Bell X-2 rocket plane hitting Mach 2.9 in 1956. The print is full-color with highly saturated hues of blues & greens. Printed on quality paper and inscribed at the bottom border. This is #7 in an edition of 1000 recorded in pencil on the lower left. Slightly to the right is artist Mike Machat's signature in pencil followed by a printed title of" Fastest Man Alive, 23rd of July 1956". Directly adjacent is the signature of "Pete" Everest in pencil. Comes with certificate of authenticity. Everest (1920 - 2004) was an Air Force WW2 pilot, engineer, and later a well-known test pilot in the 1950s. He is best known as the chief pilot of multiple rocket planes including the Bell X-1 and the Bell X-2 as pictured in this artwork. The artist, Mike Machat, was a USAF pilot, author, and artist with work spanning numerous decades. His works are in many institutions including the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum.
