Description :
Lone Ranger Atomic Bomb Ring is a Kix Cereal Premium from 1947. Combines the silver bullet iconography associated with the Lone Ranger and the contemporary invention of the atomic bomb. The ring was produced only a couple of years after the atomic bomb was introduced into the world IRL. This ring incorporated a spinthariscope allowing the wearer to see nuclear disintegrations caused by the interaction of radioisotopes - sort of scary given what we know about radiation now! You went to a dark room, let your eyes adjust, removed the red tail fin, and looked into the ring. You would see flashes of light caused by the released energy of atoms splitting. This small spinthariscope had polonium alpha particles that struck a zinc sulfide screen. Polonium is considered a dangerous material, but its half-life of 138 days makes it considered safe at very small levels. Thus the ads claiming perfect safety. The longer you had the ring, the less it would perform until eventually you just had a regular ring. Obviously this is the case for the ring today. In great vintage condition with no cracks visible - no flashing atoms either, but they there at one time! Note that instructions image (last photo) is not included in this lot; here for reference only. Shipping available only through Fed Ex Pack & Ship
