Description :
We believe this is an original painting by well-known
aviation artist Nixon Galloway (1927-2003)/A.S.A.A. from 1989. The painting portrays fighter jets in
formation above the clouds. The light is magnificent on the planes - the clouds
feel like you could touch them and they’d be soft. The paint application
appears to be extremely thin – no impasto to the paint texture, but a
slight sheen. There is additional matte paint applied on the top layer in the
clouds making them more realistic. Despite not being able to see brush
strokes, we believe this is original because 1) Galloway's paint technique
matches this thin application, 2) the matte coat on top of the shiny coat is impossible to get in a print, 3) our
client tended to own originals rather than copies, and 4) the frame is an expensive one
in stepped silver edging. We don’t think someone would purchase such a frame for a poster/copy.
Measures 22” H x 26” W framed. Nixon Galloway's paintings have been exhibited in the White House, Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, the Air Force Museum, and the Kennedy Space Center. He also worked as a freelance illustrator with aircraft manufacturers such as Boeing, Hughes & Northrop. For more info on the artist: Meadowlark Gallery: The Artist Biographies
