Description :
Fighting Astronaut from Japanese maker Daiya & distributed
by Cragstan (1962). This guy has great vintage credentials. With a mostly blue
spacesuit, we love the little details of this tin litho figure: ropes &
tools hanging down his thighs, red chevrons on his shoulders, incredible detail
on his goggled eyes, nice gun, #258 on his arm, intricate breathing apparatus, and
tanks on his back. He runs on 2 “D” batteries. We put them in, pushed the lever
on his battery pack and were about to give up when the gun’s end flickered to
life with a red glow and we heard him rev up. After what seemed like a long
time, he started walking slowly forward. He stopped after a bit and seemed to be
attempting to lift his arms to fire the gun, but after a moment reverted back
to his slow walk. We think the batteries have to be positioned just right to
make connection and there is an issue with the mechanism that raises his arms.
We will let the new owner work this out; he’s a great model for display
regardless of movement but could really use a bit of a scrub to shine and
there’s definitely rust in the battery box. Please note that there is some wear
and tear on him from use, but he still looks terrific. See photos for details
Measures 14” H with plastic helmet ( note that helmet does not come off). These guys are hard to find - here's one (but note that this one is fully working)
